This task is designed like the short answer questions that are included in Section One of the Area of Study Paper in the HSC. The only difference will be that instead of reading the stimulus, you will listen to it.
Format of the test
Firstly, the teacher will read five questions for you. You will have the questions in front of you so that you can also read them yourself.
There will be a short recording. You will listen to the recording twice. You will be able to make notes as you listen.
Then you will be given thirty minutes to write the answers to the five questions.
Most questions will be worth 2 or 3 marks. There will be one five mark question at the end.
You should be prepared to write between 40 and 50 lines of writing in response to the 5 mark question.
The focus will be on the way belonging is represented in the text, what insights are given into the nature of belonging and the techniques the composers use to convey those insights. You should practise analysing short passages to prepare for this task.
